Uniden Pro 520 XL operation Question
So I got a new radio yesterday, SWR prefect on Tram 3500 with radio.
Sounds way different in the static compared to the Midland 75-822 was using with mag antenna, it crackles like popcorn popping or someone shoveling gravel inside radio. Not the more constant white noise I heard on midland.
When I have RF gain far to the right, the amount of squelch control available is minimal. Gain down more squelch.
I’m I doing something wrong or is the radio having issues?
I’m sure this are elementary questions.

You are seeing the results of a better antenna system and a slightly better receiver. Most of the noises you described are "Mother Nature", atmospheric, and man made.

The static you hear will grow on you, it's when there isn't any that makes you wonder. I've had some quiet days on the base when I can here the traffic signal up from me (about 500ft away), relays chattering and the crosswalk blinking, don't get me started on how many washing machines are in my neighborhood making noise, (11 at last count, laundry day is terrible).
