handheld recommendations

#36209

Post by wam »

I know they're not popular for best performance, but I want a plug & play cb to take from vehicle to vehicle. Seems like that would be a handheld or one of the 12v plug in models from Midland or Cobra that have all the controls on the mike. I think the Midland is truly portable, whereas the Cobra has a small box that stays behind. I can add a small mag-mount external antenna to boost range (which is std with the Midland).

Comments or recommendations? Thanx -- Bill

if your just looking for some short range communication without the bells and whistles of the bigger units then you know what you want.

the smaller units work fine for just that. I know a few people that have the little cobras you were talking about. I might know a guy with one of the handheld Midlands but I cant remember if thats his brand or not so Im not going to say yes for sure.

They will work for short range. But dont go into it thinking they are going to be big talkers with alot of functions. They are basic.

When I was younger and getting in to CB radio. We drove from NC to FL with a mag mount cheap radioshack antenna, 40channel handhelds (cobra) and a cig. power adapter..

Talked to quite a few truckers on the trip there and back. Not long distance talkers but with someone in short range communication was not to difficult if you were going in the same direction

If you wanted to go with a better radio and mag mount antenna you use a slip seater box. [Please login or register to view this link] Check this page from one on the sponsors scroll to the bottom for the box's only.
