Antron 99 on a mobile
Has anyone tried this? I've got an old "Bandit 2" (built exactly like an a99) base antenna and was thinking about building a bracket to use it on my truck...while parked of course.
I know they weren't designed for mobile use but it has to be an improvement over the predator 10k.

Oh I forgot. Are there any 1/2 wave or greater mobile antennas that aren't loaded on the market?

Yes, lots of us have hooked up a base antenna while parked. I've done it many times. One time we parked on top of a 7 story parking structure in the downtown area of the state capitol. It's a hot city for radio activity, many potty mouths who frequently dominate the frequencies. Not that night. We were "walkin' the dog and kickin' the cat!" By the end of the evening, there were at least 4 mobiles out looking for us.

Just keep in mind that for a Antron99 to be effective it should be mounted on a pole at lease 17' high. This is at least what was in the documentation. Most likely it is due to the need for some sort of counterpoise.
Do a google search on "ground mounted antron99" for a few others experimental results. Most of them used some easy to deploy wire radials to get better signal.
There is a lot of good info out there about this subject.

Hey 543..
There is a guy here that had a small section of conduit welded to a square piece of steel...to fit in his trailer hitch receiver and mounted the antenna to the conduit.
It works fine.

I just had to take a peek on this thread.... The top section of the antron 99 would make a dandy whip if not for the thin wall of fibreglass.....
