O.K. I got my hands on an older Cobra 78X. Is it any good? Just wondering about the quality of the radio.
I am making my own antenna wire and radio shack sold me RG 8 wire and RG 58 connectors. The wire is the same size as the connector. Did they mess up? Do I need a RG 8 connector?
That radio will not be counted as good when compared to some of the modern rocketship radios. But if it transmits and receives to your satisfaction it's great...your on the air!

Sorry for the incredibly new Q's, Baked
No, they didn't mess-up. RG mini 8 and RG 58 use the same connectors. Now If you got the connectors that fit RG 8. (which is the thicker coax) some of Radio Shacks connectors have a sleeve that will let you use the bigger PL 259 connectors, with the smaller diameter coax's...(like RG mini 8, and RG 58) The sleeve screw's into the bottom of the connector. If there is nothing like this with your connectors, then maybe you need to go back to radio Shack and show them which coax you have, and find out what ya need....Most Radio Shack employee's, are not that familiar with CB stuff...(specially the younger clerks!)
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
What I have found is that you can buy an 18' coax cable already made up and tested for less than you can make it for. Truck stops have um and you can go to one of our sponsors and order one. You will find that we have good sponsors and they can send it pretty quick.
As far as that radio, I have never heard of it so I cant say if its good or not. Like Small truck says, if you are happy with it then its a good radio.
