what antenna ?

#280939

Post by Remo »

i currently run a 102" whip

im thinking maybe a predator 10k, or a 55, or mr coily punisher.

which route should i go? keep the 102" ?? or maybe get another antenna ? and if so, which one !

as much as i like the 102... its just too darn tall.

That 'tallness' is honestly the only good reason why there are 'shorter' antennas. The 'best' shorter antenna you can use is the one that's only as short as you have to have. So why can't a really short antenna work as well as that long one? Because length has a direct affect on the shape/extent of an antenna's radiation pattern. Think of it like a rubber-duck antenna having a radiation pattern the size/shape of a marble, an antenna maybe 2 feet long a ping-pong ball, then baseball, softball, basket ball, etc, etc. No, the radiation pattern isn't really that shape, but the relative sizes sort of 'fit', it's just an example.
I'm not getting into the which brand or model of antenna thingy, that's personal choice/preference, just don't go any shorter than you have to. The only thing those coils do is make the antenna shorter, they do not provide some mysterious radiation benefits.
The only thing I would recommend, no matter which antenna you use, is to paint it pink!

I agree. If your whip is not causing you any problems due to it's height, then keep what you have cause it don't get any better than that. Now, if you want to trade it in for something "real purty" cause it has big coils and all shiny, then that's your choice, but don't expect it to beat your 102" whip when it comes to a kick-a** signal because it wont!

you already have the best. all those coils antennas aare just trying to be 102" whips. but if the height is an issue out of the 3 that you listed write them all down on small sheets of paper shuffle them then draw out one, they all are pretty much the same in performance. if a light weight antenna is what you want go with the 10K probally the best price too and customer service if needed is unmatched.

Predator 10K...And you'll never look back at a 102" Whip the same way again...

By the way...Don't listen to a word "Doc" says about antenna's....

Ask anyone......Painting a antenna PINK will do nothing for your reception....If your going to paint one, Violet or Purple is the way to go... Red and White "Candy Cane" stripped works good to, but it is hell to get the coil to look right.

HA!
It's obvious that J.J.D. doesn't know much about male electron psychology! It's a lot like super macho-males on steroids. Attracted to anything pink, have to go see what that is, you never know, you know? And if already there, really don't want to get caught leaving something pink, might be thought of as 'feminine'! Never fit their 'self-image' you know. Of course, real radio men couldn't care less what others think about their 'feminine' looking antennas since they do work very, very well. Big differences in what you 'show' and what you 'know', you know.
