new antenna question

#235060

Post by ussblade »

im looking to get a new antenna. From what i have read, im pretty set on the wilson 1000. I do have a question about the Wilson 1000 Trunk Lip Mount. Is this something that i would need to drill a hole in my trunk for, or is it something that goes on the edge of the trunk, and uses set screws, or something similar? If i can keep from drilling holes in my trunk with the lip version, that would be awesome, that way i couldn't have to use the magnet mount and possibly scratch my paint even more.

Thanks

Blade,
A typical 'trunk mount' does as you said, uses 'set screws' to hold the mount to the lip of a trunk edge. An aspect you might want to keep in mind is that those 'set screws' have to make good electrical contact with the metal of the trunk lid. That contact is typically underneath, but the paint on the top part might get damaged a bit too. A good electrical contact between that trunk lid and the rest of the car is also a very nice thing, and sometimes just isn't all that good.
Good luck.

Thanks for the answer doc  Scraping some paint from the bottom of my trunk lid is no problem, im just tired of having big scratches on the top of my trunk lid due to magnet mounts.

the wilson 1000 is an excellent ant. as long as you are not planning on running 1000 watts through it. it will puff if you do .

i have several , i ran a 5 pill through one for years , no problems.

good luck

still deciding on what to put through it. Right now, i think i have a stock radio (pawn shop purchase), but it gets out for a few miles while doing 75 on the freeway. That is with a trucker antenna mounted on a magnet mount. I got that, cause all i had at the time was a p.o.s. foot and a half antenna that might have recieved 1/4 of a mile.

I know i dont want to do anything major with my engine on my car, so if i do run an amp, it would be something small, nothing anywhere near the 1000 watt range.
