Wilson 5000 tuning help

I've put a rooftop style mount on the trunk lid of a '98 Honda civic.Using a MFJ-207 ant analyzer it show the 1.1:1 dip to be in the 26mhz range,I've already trimmed off about 1 1/2 inches or so and it's only gotten up to the 26mhz range point. What now keep trimming or do I need to shorten the coax which is stock length.

Set that rascal up in the center of the roof and shoot for lowest SWR's ....It'll talk further and hear in all directions!!I run a Galaxy radio and a TX Star DX 350 HDV and the tip of the Wilson 5k is about 12 feet up,it'll mash down MOST stuff and doesn't strain it to pounce on a base station at all.....I have been known to get **Censored** or rowdy and lock it down for a lil while.....LMAO

The civic has an electric sunroof so I'm stuck with the trunk lid position

Make sure your trunk lid has a solid ground 1st to the frame. The hinges do not allow for a solid ground so here is an example before you go cutting that whip any farther...Use a star locking washer to make solid connections .Bonding the lid to the frame...

PE, where did you get that gorgeous ground strap?

I got it! Wilson recommends 61 3/4 inch and I had to cut down to 59 1/2inch and use a ground wire and I'm at 1.3:1 swr on 19
Good enough for me.

That will work but it is not the best SWR to have max perf out of the radio.Most radios today are built in such a way that if the swr is too high the radio limits output power,so you may find that it leaves something to be desired.....The driver side rear quarter panel is another good place to try the antenna[on the trunk]..It may work ok but don't try to run any power with the SWR high as that,it will fry the radio in no time..
Good tip on those ground straps by Pony Express also I made me some seperate ground straps/wires from some old jumper cables,works fine as they are thick copper.It probably wouldn't hurt to scratch a bit of the paint off where the star washer makes contact with the body,and of course you'll have the strap helping to ground it too....Good luck witit!!
