Cleaning My Wilson 1000

Hi Guys,

I have a question about my Wilson 1000 mag mount. There is a little cap thingy (I'm pretty sure that is the technical term, yes, I'm sure I have heard that somewhere) to put on the magnet base when the whip isn't screwed in. Well, it disappeared off the top of my RAV4 last year and I was thinking I should try to clean the surfaces that touch the whip so I have the best contact. What I mean is the hole in the mag mount where the whip screws in....that doesn't sound right but I can't think of a different way to say it at the moment, lol.... Any suggestions on what to use? I was thinking of using a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to get down inside the magmount....Arizona is pretty dusty and dirty and I'm sure it could use it....

What say all of you?

Annie :)

I'ld just take it to the car wash, and turn the hose on the thing...

Pipe cleaners and rubbing alcohol should work. Cut the pipe cleaners smaller, as to have more of these "brushes," and run them through several times. Also, remove and clean/lube the threads on the setscrew and its hole, to prevent seizing.

Clean the entire length of the whip as well, with a Scotchbrite® pad and soapy water, and wipe dry.

It's basically a matter of getting the dirt off/out without scarring or deforming the thing. How ever is easiest for you. 'Q'-tip/pipe cleaners/small brush/whatever. Alcohol, '409', 'Windex', whatever works. Dry it out and replace the cap/antenna. If it has setscrews, not a bad idea to lube them.

In addition to the above suggestions, I would shoot a little WD40 in it and blow it out with some canned air.

That should get the loose stuff out and any remaining moisture.
