Being in Florida, (don't know if your close to any beaches), you might want to use some conductive grease on the joints, local electric supplier or a car parts store should carry it.

Something like dielectric grease would probably work. My buddy put a metal antenna together years ago and the stuff that came with it was grey in color and had antioxidants in it especially for the metal joints. Molox maybe? Cannot remember for the life of me what it was called. I am so excited to hear someone finally picked up a Spt-500. Please let us know how it assembles and how it performs. Probably at the top of my list of next 5/8 antennas to try. Good luck to you!

Be careful with dielectric products, they sometimes act as an insulator.
