I have recently experienced a problem with the microphone on two different TYT 9800 radios. The radio will transmit but there is no audio. The mic gain is adjusted correctly. A new microphone was purchased and installed with the same result. Any idea how to fix this?

How are you sure it is transmitting? Wattmeter?

Are you trying to use it on the CB band, it is a FM transmit only radio but will receive AM on 26 to 33 MHz.

I know the radio is transmitting because I can see the signal being received on a HT by looking at its meter. I am using it on the 70cm portion of the amateur radio band (UHF).

In the same room, right? If the finals are blown or damaged you can be tricked into thinking everything is good. try some distance an see. say from one house to the next.

That is right and remember you are dealing with FM, the little HT could be experiencing IF overload because the signal is so close. You can use any watt meter to check for output. What about the other bands?

Well 1 ADAM 12 ,

I'm sorry you have been having difficulty with this mic and radio.
I have a TYT TH9800 and it has been working wonderfully.

I use it mostly for 2M and have a HH9000 gutter mount antenna
mounted on two 1' square pieces of steel on my lower garage roof.

It is a Quad band antenna and the steel plates are the ground plane.

I would be in contact with the manufacturer about this mic issue ASAP.

Hope all works out well for you. The TH9800 has been an excellent peice of
equipment for me since I got my ham ticket 1.5 years ago.

73 for now,

Mike
