Yeah, so I have an Old Realistic with some crappy huge dual whips (radio shack lol) for my blazer (yes, i said blazer haha)

Ok, So let me start off with saying when i fist got it all set up, it worked ok. 6ish miles. (picked up alot of roadnoise though)

Anyways the TX Power slowly started declining from there. Later I found out it was getting pinched off in the door (I thought i had it in there good Embarassed ) And then Finnally ended up in getting completly split in half on both sides.

So i went in there, and spliced it back together using alot of twisting and electrical tape (yeah i did separate the inside from the out lol)

So when I enable the mic, it goes up to 5 (max) on TX Power without the plugged in the back of the CB.

But when i plug the connector into the back of the cb (antennas plugged in) and transmit, i get 0-1 bars on the TX Power.

But when i have it plugged it, i get alot of static as compared to nothing.

And when i had the radio on full volume and would go to plug in the antennas it was effecting the way the static was sounding on the CB (I couldnt pick anything up at the time) So that means that the wire DOES work, or does it.

Because I am getting no TX power anymore with the stuff plugged in.

Should new wires, or could it be the cb. Because some how i did a really good job jimmy rigging the wiring back together, and you can tell the signal goes all the way to the connector because when i touch it on the antenna you can hear it change with squelch down and full static (if you know what i mean)

Could it just be the ollllld CB?

Oh and another question, My Whips came with mirror mounts and my blazer has very small mirror bars, so there **Censored** (stupid sensor! lol) mounted (both facing towards eachother like this: / \ Would that affect much?

Should i get new wiring?

New Antennas?

New CB?

I dont know

thanks in advance for any advice

ummm Sounds as if you may have burnt your radio up when the coax shorted out ....

I believe I would pick up a decent mag mount antenna
Wilson 100 or 5000 and a new radio :)

But your radio might still be ok but I would really think about upgrading your antenna system

Well, it could be a lil bit of everything unfortunately.

I would say in the long run, you would be better off with a whole new setup... You would enjoy it more too.

Check with our sponsers on this forum. They're all top notch. (Especially Radioactive and Sparkys) :D

hehehe, How long did you transmit with the vehicle as your antenna, musta been a nasty SWR, you can fry a system like that, Get a power meter and a dummy load and test the output, if you still have any try a new antenna.

NEVER key up without an antenna hooked up, even if you use your car as an antenna, the SWR's will kill your radio. Go get yourself a $20 truck stop antenna, and if you really get into CB and like it, you can always upgrade.
