I was talking to my brother who is into the sdr stuff which got me curious as to what the easiest way to tx with sdr. He just has the dvb dongle from Nooelect. Which I believe you just receive with which would be fun to use as a scanner for the emergency frequencies around here. But I was wondering what a cheap easy way would be to use the sdr technology as a transceiver as well well?

There is no cheap way to transmit, an SDR is just a receiver but there are SDR amateur radios that are expensive. You will find some more info on the subject by using the search feature.

Yeah I see the expensive radios. I decided to give the sdr receiver a try. Bought one online tonight. I found sdr touch for android so using a otg cable you can plug the dongle into your android device. So I'll see how well this works once everything arrives!

I bought one of the cheap kits and built it, they work okay, you will have to do some research on ones that will work for you. I just bought a SDRPlay RSP1 , the website has there own program to download making it much easier to program and adjust. It costs a little more but worth the loss of aggravation.

I know a few HAMS around here that have the DV4M dongles and they say they work great. They use it for their D-Star nets. I myself am into System Fusion. I'm considering a dongle hooked up to an Raspberry PI. The coolest thing I think is that for around 200 bucks you can TX in any digital mode you want. HOWEVER, I may get the DV4M mobile transceiver as a Christmas gift since I had heard that these rigs go for like 900-1200 dollars! :crying-blue:

I've been playing around with mine when I get a free minute. I can receive the noaa weather channels and fm radio great. However I still need to play around with dsd+ a little more t decode the digital signals. So far it's been a fun little project for $25 lol

The driver download will send you to "Zadig", there you have to pick the right driver, it is a little complicated. NooElec website has the downloads you need to get started.

Hmm, open HDSDR, in the bottom left corner there is a menu, click "options", the top is "select input" click it, click on "ExtlO DLL", now back to the menu and click "start". It should run the dongle.

Cool! Sometimes starting over is the thing to do, glad you got it working. I've been watching mine on 2m. Once you play with the you got you will probably look to upgrade to one that will give you the HF bands, I would recommend the SDRPlay.

Try this again, it sounds like it's using the the mic line instead of the dongle.

If you can't click on "ExtlO DLL" then the dongle isn't seen, correct. try reinstalling it again but unplug the dongle first.

When that box pops up it should show a file for the dongle.

Chares,

Instead of fussing with SDR#, I got CubicSDR at Cubicsdr.com and just downloaded to Windows 10 and followed the prompts.
It will still take some learning but it is working and I have connected an external hard drive to the puter so I can keep
a lot of the stuff off of the laptop.

I am still learning about adding plug-ins so I can use the ham up gear I got and the shortwave gear I have connected as well.

I have the dongle hooked to my rooftop antenna, too.
