hey ive been off the air since the 80s,at that time i had a tram d201a a 900 watt heater a laser beam, whis i had it all back, well i have got a bug to set up a base at home, whats new since the 80s as far as quality of radios, i have been leaning towards an old golden eagle or a tram because i always liked the way they sounded on the other end,or have the new radios of today made big improvements,i just want to start with a base and a ground plane and maybe a little xtra power, any suggestions, i am really not sureweather to go with an old tube o new radio, any help would be great

Welcome whitehall honcho,

Call Mike at ***Censored***, on the phone, the old fashioned way.

I dare you to be less than amazed, impressed, elated, ....

If you can afford the best, he will deliver.

His customer service and equipment performance are untouchable, this side of heaven.

His radios are not a simple matter of "a good tune job on a family car", his radios are, highly modified, like operating a "tricked out Corvette with dual blowers".

!!!!click his link in this forum, and tell him were referred from the forum!!!!!

Also, don't believe anything negative you might hear about him. Radio Tech's are a jealous bunch, and Mike is the radio-god! They are just jealous that they are still operating out of the tech manual they got at a garage sale.

Simply ask anyone else if they offer a "LifeTime Warranty" on their work...That oughta keep em' quiet. Mike does!

Start at the top and *?!$ the search for something better!

This has not been a paid advertisement, I am just one more very happy customer.

Trams are hard to beat,,have great audio, I use both new and Old school radios, my main station is a Lafayette Telstat 1140,extra freqs,,Stomping export radios,,,LOL,,,,I love tube radios,,but cost of tubes suck!! Nothing sounds warmer than a tube radio with a tube amp, there are many Trams ,Brownings
and Courier radios out there for sale

Why not? I have both! You can't beat the sound of that Sonar FS-23! Its a great little base. I use if for local talking being it only has 23 channels. For shooting skip, I move to the RCI 2995DX.

I have talked alot of skip on old tube radios,,,due to the fact I have more hours talking on them,,,but for newer radios the RCI is the first choice!!

Good advice there Thumper.
That's a good combination for getting the most talk for the buck.

Well i have jumped in with both feet, i hope i will be able to find someone to talk to, seems quite out there, just hooked up my old browning ltd in my jeep with a 102 stainless whip, seems to be a nice sounding radio,my new rci 2980wx should be here at the end of the week, found a nice browning mark 1V so i bought that too, also ordered a antron a99 should all be here in the next day or two, i will be busy this weekend, now thinking of buying a nice mobile for my good truck, maybe the connex 4600 turbo,or something around those lines, well hope to catch you on the air later
