Re: Pin out needed for a Maxon HCB-40wx
those little radios normally has a rubber plug on top and 2 holes underneath to plug the mic into. not sure what mic will work with it. there is loads of info if you search on google about it. even can be converted for 3 bands of channels.some sellers have mics for portable radios so you will just have to locate a seller that has the proper 2 pin mic for your radio.

I have one of them, even did the channel mod, never thought of using a speaker/mic on it. The jack that says "EAR" is also the mic jack when hooking up an external speaker/mic and the "PTT" is just that. The circuit uses some diodes to aid in the switching. Best bet for a speaker/mic that works is to go to a hamfest and try out some to the different HT mics, there is usually a bunch of them.

I have a MFJ Speaker/Mic, model MFJ-286, I bought for a Kenwood HT I had and it won't plug into the Maxon, the spacing between the two plugs is slightly wider. I also have a QSOK Speaker Microphone that plugs in but does not work with the Maxon (must be wired different) so there is a plug that size out there. I have seen headset too. I think looking for one on that auction site might be a costly mistake.

you can get one from china for 7.05 shipped right now. not very costly.they even have some of the headset types on there. the one I looked at fits tons of icom's and about all the cobras, and some maxon radios. since the one he has is old it might work on it. just not listed on their site.. I have one for my cobra 45wx and it works just fine.

here is all the mic fits. would not surprise me that it will work on his. thinking about buying one myself to have an extra.
It enables you to talk and listen without having to remove the radio from your belt. It comes with a strong long-lasting metallic clip that swivels. Just clip the speaker mic where convenient and use it to listen and transmit. This speaker mic comes with a PTT button and a 90 degree ear jack.
It also comes with a 3.5mm mono headphone jack when it is required, cutting out the speaker.
It is most popular in police & security personnel, and mostly used for patrol duty, large team activities, business activities and senior entertainment venues.

I went ahead and ordered me an extra one for my cobra. they even have some for the pin holes that are on the side of the radio and not on top. just takes a little searching. that place that shut down most of their stores use to carry 2 different mics for the hand held radios. more than likely they do not have them any more.

Re: Pin out needed for a Maxon HCB-40wx
if the pin spacing works on the radio from the mic and it does not key properly you can open the mic and change the location of the wires too the switch to make it work since the plug to wires is molded. I gave my son one of these mics for his radio and I had to change the wires inside the mic for key up and hearing the speaker from the mic.only took about 5 min to change the wiring around to match it to the radio.
