there ps a good CB group in IL called white sqirl they are a yahoo group help you with locals i agree with the guys here My first CB was an old midland with the coax stuck into a broken steel whip sandwiched between two 2x4s nailed to the side peak of the house ran off an old motorcycle battery and a trickle charger... as far as radios go anything that says cobra or Uniden are good radios i would recommend the 29ltd like the rest of the guys here they are a great started mobile as for a base radio i would look at any 40 channel rigs but you might also want to get him one that has side band as well this mode gives you much much more distance what major town is closest to you? are there any major truck stops close by find a cb shop in your area and go take a look....73s i think your son will love the radio i know I have for 30 plus years

Wow. Been awhile since I've seen you around. Glad to see you're still hard at it. Be careful climbing that tower and make sure you find yourself a climbing belt.

Yea , good to hear from ya again Semi Boy , glad to hear you're still at it. If it turns into a full blown addiction that borders on compulsive madness , don't worry , that's normal :icon_e_wink: :icon_e_wink: .......Just look at my shack!!!!

Hello SemiBoy if you still get on.
How has it been going.. I sent you that cobra 29, wattmeter, powersupply and mic I think 5 years or so ago. Are you still into radio? I hope so and hope your having fun.
I took a long needed break from everything, and as I traveled the world didn't have much time for radio or anything else. But I am getting back started again. Still have
everything and just doing a little catching up on this snow day.
Take care

Wow, has this been nearly 6 years?

I remember this thread as if it were the other day. I didn’t post or have anything to contribute then, but it doesn’t feel like this was that long ago.

Hope the young fellow has had fun with the CB radio over the years. I know I had a lot of fun when I was 12 / 13 on the radio :-)

Wow, Crazy to read this at 24 now. I’m still involved in radios, and getting heavy back into it. I have me a little bit more than just that cobra 29 now. But it still gets used! 4am where I am so I’ll come back to this tomorrow with more thoughts and words :) 73, Semiboy/208WI
