Wilson 1000 too short!
I can't let myself pay for the shipping on a 66" whip. Is there a way to do a home made extension of 2 or 3" to improve swr?
Add a small piece of wire to the tip for now. I've done that lots of times with no ill affect.

Can't. No local Wilson dealers within a 6 hr drive that won't charge $20 shipping.

Well....actually...a whip is a whip and the Wilson mount will not know the difference.
Check with your local cb shop, I'll bet ya they got something that will fit.
Good Luck

Mine is too short also... We are talking about the antenna right? LOL
Seriously, the whip on my 1000 is about and inch and a half short. My SWR is 1.6 on channel one. I run it. I even run power through it and talk skip etc. etc. etc.
One suggestion is to move the antenna to different parts of the roof. That may improve your SWR. In all reality, you shouldnt buy a whip. Save your money and run it the way it is.
Unless of course your SWR is much over 2.

I was under the impression that the tapered whip of the Wilson makes a difference.
