Ground on Wilson 1000
Ground on Wilson 1000
Hello,I ran an extra ground off my WIlson 1000 mag mount yesterday and a lot of the static disappeared on it when I did,but also lost some of the signal strenth seemed like.
What's up with this,is it a good or bad thing to run a ground off the wilson mag mounts didn't want to leave it on there til I talk to you guys.

This will start a good debate, but don't need to ground a mag mount antenna, they are designed to ground through the mag assembly,,,,,
Magnet mount antennas actually get their ground through "capacitive coupling" with the metal of the vehicle. The capacitance that the magnet forms with the surface of the vehicle is what couples the RF circuit to the body of the car. It determines the efficiency of your antenna installation.

The extra ground should not hurt and like the other replys said it is all ready grounded. However, depending on the car you have the metal might be thin or not a lot of it, in this case would the extra ground help? Again I don't see how it would hurt. How did you ground it?
