Wilson 1000 short load antenna
I posted a question several months ago asking if anyone had any experience with this antenna and didn't get any responses. I see that some dealers are now out of stock on them now so I figure there may be some folks out there that have used them and can give a report on how they perform, especially compared to the 62" Wilson 1000. Anybody out there using the short load?
I don't have one so can't answer your question directly. But how about a few thoughts about it, all free of course.
If you need a shorter than 60 something inches of antenna, and a 40 something inch antenna might fit your needs, then it would probably be a good choice. How would it perform? About like any other 40 something inch antenna assuming you do a good tune on each of them. I'd have to say you could/should expect slightly less 'performance' than a 60 something inch antenna, no idea how much 'less', but some. Deals with the length of the radiator and radiation patterns.
Considering the size of the loading coil in that shorter whip, you can forget about any maximum power handling ability advertised, 500, 1000, or 5000 watts in the antenna's name (the short whip should work on any of those different model antennas), it's very unlikely to withstand those sort of power levels. It might, but I really doubt it (forget it, ain't using my radio and/or amplifier for demonstration purposes!).
Already got a Wilson that uses that 62 inch whip, then they offer that 39 inch whip under replacement parts ($16.00? at one site). Sort of a cheaper alternative than buying the whole thing. Expect to have to tune the thing.
