Which antenna bleeds less?
Thinking of putting up a base, which antenna would be a better choice, A99 or I-MAX? I live in an appartment complex and don't want any problems. I don't have any room for a antenna with ground radials.....
Thanks
Thanks

im afraid you will bleed your closest neighbor with either ant. antron 99's are called splatter sticks around here . i have never owned an i-max .
it depends on your setup . a stock cb with good coax will probably be ok . over modulation with low power can be more of a problem than 200 watts with clean audio .
if i had a choice i would get the maco v5/8 ground plane .
but thats just my opinion .
good luck

Performance-wise the Imax is the winner, hands down over the A99. I've had both and have never had a "bleeding" issue with either. And that includes back when I used to live in town with pr*ck neighbors in close proximity on all sides with the A99 and running up to 500W whenever I cared to. The antenna only radiates whatever is put into it, and that includes the crap that causes the bleeding. FWIW...........

The Antenna is not going to be your problem as for as "Bleeding" go's. Bleeding has more to do with your radio and Amp if your running one. (Mostly the Amp)

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
X~2. And let's not forget the electronics the neighbors might have. There isn't an antenna out there that won't get into unshielded devices even barefoot.PA629 wrote:Performance-wise the Imax is the winner, hands down over the A99. But I agree with PA629, the Imax hands down beats the A99 in performance.
Best of luck in your decision.

thank you all,
maybe I will just run a dipole first and see how that works out....

The one that is high enough, with the right setup as far as feed, grounding, and clean signal will be the best. I would avoid the sloping ground plane kits and don't forget about guy wire length. A guy wire can easily be the right length to radiate and alter the pattern enough to enhance trouble. Proximity is always a factor, partially taken care of by height, but if you have a choice on your property to install it as far away from others as possible, do so. I'd do the Imax but both work well.

Thanks all,
My problem is I am not allowed to put anything up or attach to the building so I will have to put it up and take it down when I’m done. I was thinking of using a tripod (free standing) with as tall of a mast as the tripod would support.
I was also thinking of the Sirio BALCONY 27-200, it looks like a dipole, that antenna I think I could get away with for a temporary install if it’s any good….

The idea of any antenna 'producing' any RFI, 'bleeding', just isn't gonna fly. It isn't the antenna that's causing anything. It certainly can be it's proximity to the devices getting that RFI, and the signal(s) it's being 'fed'. Making sure the signals going to that antenna are 'clean', and getting the antenna as far away from 'stuff' as possible, are the two things that determine how much 'bleeding' is done. And reducing the strength of the signals fed to that antenna can also help. Lower power is the equivalent of moving the antenna further away. See where that's going?
Doing a really good tune up with an antenna is also a good idea. SWR doesn't mean RFI, but where that standing wave -is-, in the feed line, means that it's going to be 'closer' to the 'offended devices'. That standing wave ought to be contained in the shielding of the coax feed line, but it seldom ever is completely. When that feed line is used as an antenna's "counterpoise", such as with NGP antennas ('A99's and Imaxx's), you can almost count on there being some stray RF floating around unless that feed line is fairly long. (All antennas have to have two terminals, a (+) and a (-), or current just ain't gonna flow, no radiation. If you don't furnish that (-), then the antenna will 'look' for one and what it 'finds' may not be very desirable.) There can be, and will be instances where a 1/4 mile of separation just ain't gonna be 'enough'. In instances like that, the 'offended' device is typically at fault, not the transmitting station. Then the 'fun' part is convincing the owner of that 'offended device' that the problem is his/hers, and not yours.
Good luck!

Thanks Doc',
I think I knew that but the way you put it sounds a lot better. I was not thinking of the A99 & IMAX as a no ground plane antenna as used on RV's but makes sense.
I don’t have a place to put the antenna away from the building and they are all so close. I run a Galaxy DX949 that has been peaked & tuned as well as a xforce x80 box. I have talked in the mobile in the parking lot (not to many contacts) and no one has complained so I think the radio is clean.
I can try some low cost things and see how that works out….
thanks

The wire dipole will be cheaper, and arguably at least, better for DXing (horizontal polarity)
Just get a couple of 20 foot collapsable painters poles from the home depot and string that bad boy up, and take her down when your done.
