new need help
hello I am very new to cb, I just purchased a galaxy 949 refurbished radio and a wilson lil wil. The antenna is installed in the center of roof on a jeep grand cherokee, swr is 1.6 the radio seems to receive good but doesnt appear to transmit. when i key the mic the meter goes all the way to the left or to zero, no replies. checked the antenna with a cobra 25 same results. radio is wired directly to the battery, chassis of radio is not grounded. any help would be appreciated

Probably just your antenna is not getting you out the way you want...lil Wilson magnet Mounted antenna's are really a "POS"...The Wilson 1000 and 5000 are much better...The lil Wilson is just too short to be much good for CB.

I also have a 102" s.s whip, maybe I will try to figure out a way to mount it to the back of the jeep and see if that works better. I can fabricate any kind of bracket, would it be best to mount at the rear of the vehicle or the side?

ok it is getting out I was trying to get a radio check, never a reply. instead of asking for a radio check I said something else and got an immediate response. I read somewhere that the mic gain is to be set to get 100% modulation, when I key the mic the the rx/tx lite turns red and the meter drops to zero all the way to the left. is that normal?
