Maco V5/8 Question
Im thinking of installing the Maco V5/8 antenna on my chimney. Problem being that the ground radials are 9ft long and will protrude over my neighbours roof by a few feet. The radials will be roughly 10ft higher then his gutter. Will this cause any problems with RFI? will i be better off with an Imax 2000? Thanks
That close to his house it might not matter what you use. On the flip side what you are running in the shack is likely to make the biggest difference of whether or not you cause RFI. If it were my situation, I'd probably opt for the Imax simply to not intrude on his "air space" over his house. The Imax works quite well I think, and probably would if nothing else give the appearance of not intruding. But you'll want to try and get which ever antenna you use a bit higher than that if you can. Between height and running a clean station you are pretty likely to be okay. A good indication would be if you are getting into your own electronics. If you are, chances are you interfering with others as well.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Were me I would go with the Imax for the same reasons stated above , I think you will find the 2000 a very good antenna , put it at least twenty feet above your roof line , not only is it legal , but its less likely to attract the attention of your neighborhood !

I recently installed an Imax2000 and have lots of static which I didn't read about until after I bought it and looked into the issue.
I get 5lbs where my dipole gets one or less. Apparently this is common with the fiberglass antennas. It does rx and tx well and needed absolutly no tuning, mounted it on a mast at 30 feet and swr was 1:1 flat through 11meter band.
Just thought you should be warned.

That noise has nothing to do with fiberglass. It does have to do with most noises being vertically polarized. If your dipole is horizontally polarized it won't hear near as much noise as ~any~ vertical antenna.

I'd also go with an Imax along with a coax choke, just because of the radial "trespass" situation. I figure why give a pr*ck neighbor any unnecessary "b*tch ammunition"? Otherwise I'd go with the Maco.
I also agree with getting the Imax, I just put mine up and LOVE it, Its 40 feet off the ground and works great. It didnt need any tuning either, flat SWR on 11 meter and I have about 2 db of noise on a bad day, and its clear as a bell on RX and TX. I would not test the "coolness" of your neighbor by putting an antenna up over his roof, that might be pushing it a bit.
