Cant tune antenna
Hey everyone, So I'm new to everything cb. and Ive been trying to tune my antenna, but I cant for the life of me get both channels tuned on my swr below 2. Nothing I have tried has seemed to work for me. But I have noticed that the readings get higher when airplanes fly over me. would that have anything to do with my swr meter tweaking out?

What antenna are you trying to tune? If it's a mobile where and how do you have it mounted and on what vehicle? If it's a base antenna then where and how it's mounted will help as well. What type of coax are you using? What type of meter are you testing the SWR on?
Can you give us a guess as to the height of those plane flying over too?

Yeah it's a Midland 18-258 window mount that I've put on the rear passenger window to my grand cherokee. and it came with a coax. I live around 6 miles from the local airport so the planes are probably flying at around 500 to a thousand feet descending to land.. and the meter is a Workman SWR-2T.
Well, I'm quite confident the airplanes going over head have nothing to do with it. The antenna design does though. And if it's anything like the one my friend had, it's pretty likely you'll never get it tuned up. Not unless yours is an exception to the rule.pachace wrote:Yeah it's a Midland 18-258 window mount that I've put on the rear passenger window to my grand cherokee. and it came with a coax. No offense intended but I'd suggest you consider using something else like the Wilson Lil-Wil. It's probably the smallest antenna that actually works I've seen. If you insist on trying to use that antenna, plan on keeping your key ups very short, and only hearing those people within eye view...because that's about what you can expect with them.
Best of luck.

None taken. I'm to blame because when I was looking at antennas I was looking at price not quality. But I'm probably going to upgrade my antenna in a couple days anyways.

Check the planes and see if they are **Censored** planes or German...Then call the Pentagon...pachace wrote:Hey everyone, So I'm new to everything cb. and Ive been trying to tune my antenna, but I cant for the life of me get both channels tuned on my swr below 2. I cant remember the name but I went to radio shack and got a magnet mount. Its improved the signal strength incredibly.
