That's just being too close, cause a baby monitor is a radio reciever, and a CB is a transmitter. The baby monitor is just doing it's job of recieving a radio signal.
It's not like he's hearing me through his toaster!!!

I run a Galaxy DX2517 with 213 coax and jumpers into an amp. with a PEP of 1250 watts and onward to the an IMAX2000 w/GPK at 40ft. The antenna is on a 20' mast atop a 20' tower that is burried at the base and mounted to the house at the top. I push a good bit of power and dont cause ANY Interference on surrounding electronics. Listen to these guys. Make sure that Radio is properly tuned. I love my Galaxies too, but I make sure they are clean. Use good coax, and get the antenna up at least one wavelength. The A-99 is similar to the IMAX i am using and I believe it has a GPK available for it as well. I highly recommmend it.
I have a second Galaxy in my car (DX-949) with a two pill box behind it with about a 300 watt PEP. I also have a ham/police scanner in the car. I dont even bleen over my scanner or my stereo. Trust me, properly tuned and installed equipment makes all the difference in the world.
If you're splattering your signal is going all over the place, if you are able to clean it up, and focus that power on the correct frequency you will get out alot better.
73's and Goodluck.

I WOULD GET A BETTER ANTENNA ,AND GET IT AS HIGH AS YOU CAN,AND GROUND IT GOOD.
ALSO I'D KEEP THE FOOT WARMER OFF,OR GET ONE WITH LOWER POWER.....JUST MY 2 CENTS

I am going to jump in and ask a question pertaining to this post too. What kind of wire should you ground the antenna with, (gauge, etc) and where on the antenna itself to you attach the ground wire?
Thanks, still adding to my knowlege of antennas....

The gage of the wire is not as important as the surface area. RF travels on the surface of metal so a flat copper strip will ground RF better than a copper wire of the same weight. Also use braided strap if possible for flexibility and larger surface area.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
If it has to run to the ground, literally, I have to find about 35 feet of braided copper strap, any ideas on where to find that???

RF ground and earth ground for lightning protection are two different animals. A ground system for safety purposes can be wire, such as the aluminum wire Rat Shack sells, or any heavy gauge copper wire. Run it from one of the antenna mounting bolts to a 6 or 8 ft. copper/copper clad ground rod.
Sounds like I have some more work to do!!! Gonna wait till next week when my new antenna gets here and do it all at once!!
Have a good LOOONNGGG weekend everyone, hopefully talk to some of you this weekend on DX.

I have read recently that if you're neighbors say that you are bleeding on their tv to check yours. In your case more than one says it so it is probably true. If you are a licensed operator the fcc is on your side, and they will say it is up to the television owner to filter their sets to stop the interference. This info was found in the latest addition of the arrl handbook. If you aren't an operator how do they know, and if not become one it's not hard. Look into it. As everyone else has said, ground your station "to earth ground" ground your antenna, and turn your mic down. If you bleed on your tv get longer coax and make small loops as many as you can it will help choke it out.

If you are a licensed HAM operator the FCC is not going to defend your actions if you are using an illegal amp on 11 meters! The RF power and modulation are overloading electronics in the area, start with a clean barefoot station. Keep your neighbors happy.afrokid wrote:I have read recently that if you're neighbors say that you are bleeding on their tv to check yours. In your case more than one says it so it is probably true. I know there not going to defend you if your running illegal equipment, but unless you broadcast what your using how would anyone ever know? I am saying if your a licensed operator you are less likely to see a big black van in front of your house.

Well looks like I'm in the same boat. A neighbor just pounded on my door a minute ago. This Guy was talkin' all kinds if S***. You guys think you know a-holes? Try a New York City a-hole! They are as big as they come. No politeness, Just strait to the **Censored** chewing. ANNNYWAY ... I have a dipole antenna "inverted v in the side of my six story apartment building. Unfortunately I cannot get on the Roof so this antenna is mounted outside my window "fifth story" Coax running though my apartment. Even at 4 watts I think my radio will bleed through. There is no way to check to with this guy without a fight. Should I keep trying to get it on the roof? So it is up higher? Is there any hope?

MMMM I recommend a Technician license or better and go to 2 meter FM on repeaters or an indoor tuned loop for 10 meter and 11 meter.
Wolf radio makes a neat looking dipole he has put on tower and cranes that might work better for a balcony.

Maybe you could home brew something similar from 2 102" whips.

Thanks for the help Hypo. I'm working on my Ham license as we speak (or type). Studying up right now. That tuned loop looks kind of interesting. I'll check it out. Can't do balcony though. I don't have one. I'm living in one of those NY apartment compartments.

a good quality low pass filter such as a Bencher YA-1 works wonders along with good coax
