hi i have a penetrator antenna with no ground plains and my antenna is ungrounded, with 1:1 swr, iv got a gray 300 4 stage amp that will do 550 watts, my antenna is just about the same hight as some of the tv antenna's around here and my neibors are saying that i am whiping out everything in there houses, although my antenna is from the 60's or 70's it is still in fair condition what could be the problem? too old of an antenna?, no ground, no ground plains, not high enough, the antenna is all aluminum is that bad. the people are saying they are gonna call the fcc, be cause i am running a amateur radio without a licence or whatever will they do anything about it? im running a Galaxy Dx 73v as a base with three batteries, help please!!

Well, they most certainly can and will do something about it if they get enough complaints. I would expect to see a letter in the mail first warning you, but not always. I've heard of them showing up at door steps requesting to inspect your station. If you refuse, you'll most certainly receive a fine. If you allow them in to inspect your station and you have inline illegal equipment, they'll confiscate it at the very least.

You don't need a license to run CB, but if you are getting into your neighbors equipment likely most of it is on your end and can be cleaned up. But some of it is likely to be on their end too. By law their equipment is required to receive a certain amount of interference. But people don't seem to know this, nor do they accept this as truth. So really, it's likely going to take being nice to your neighbors and working with them to eventually solve the problem(s). My guess is though, some won't work with you no matter what, then you'll just have to follow your own conscience as you see fit knowing full well you might be fined. Most fines run in the thousands of dollars easily by the way.

Good luck.

Yes the FCC could come and get ugly, if they do let them take your stuff to avoid huge fines and court dates!!!!! Its cheaper that way. You need to talk to your neighbors, see if just the radio bleeds or is it only with the amp on. Don't let them know what you have if you can help it. You can get a low pass filter to go inline with the antenna this may help some. The most problems is usually the radio, These exports can be turned up and have top gun mods that make bad TVI problems. Try running your mic gain way down and see if this clears it up a little. Also getting your antenna higher can be a big plus as well. Most IMPORTANT thing to do is talk to your neighbors and let them know you are trying to fix the problem. If you can get them on the phone and try a few different settings while talking to them. You may even want to get a stock cb to put in line and try it. If this tears up the neighbors then they have issues on their end but, you still should be willing to help, after all you have to live by them. Do some checks and see what results you get.

If someone came up to me and said "hey, what kinda setup would I need if I REALLY wanted to get into trouble by interfering with the neighbors" your setup would be what i would describe. Several things are contributing to your problem: Antenna height, power, dirty signal, proximity, and who knows what else. With that setup, fully expect trouble. To clean it up, stop running the amp and either switch to a clean radio or tune the one you have. Then, raise your antenna to where the base is as high as you can get it- preferrably 35 feet or more. Use broken guy wires (broken with egg insulators), a good radial system on it, as I recall the penetrator had 4 radials- use them. Get some good coax (lmr400 or equivalent, rg213 will do), run it right and put an rf choke at the base of the antenna. And, run a low pass filter.

Doing all that will have you much cleaner and having the antenna higher and more of your signal in band may not sound louder but will probably work very close to as well as it works now. You'll have better receive and almost as good transmit as you do now barefoot.

I'm hoping this was a joke post, but if not, beware: angry neighbors can lead to nightmares, and it's not only the ones that are complaining. There may be others that aren't complaining to you, but to the authorities. I'm not hear to preach, but that's just the way it works. If you're interfering with tv's and such, who knows what else you're interfering with? Medical devices? Pace makers? Emergency communications systems? Once neighbors complain, they'll complain even when you're not operating. They clamp on you like a psycho girlfriend and anytime there is ANY problem with reception, even if it is the cable or satellite's fault, in their mind, it's ALL YOU. If the FCC wants to find you, they will, in short order. You're a sitting duck, even when you're moving, with today's technology, and don't think they don't look at these websites.

Its your radio and amp setup making the TVI, then the low antenna is radiating into the house. You need to tune the radio to sound good and not splatter and get the (or a)antenna up higher and add radials if ya can. Get some good coax too you will need that. This is just to start with, changing the antenna will have little to no effect on your TVI problem if you do not raise it as well.

The antenna isn't going to matter in your case. You're OVERLOADING your area by saturating it with signal. You're probably 20 feet too low on your antenna and 490 watts too high for a clean signal that won't interfere regardless of the antenna type. Do yourself a favor and stop talking until you get it resolved.

If you don't want to clean up your station move to a neighborhood with illegal aliens if they complain about the interference tell them they have to contact the fcc.

dont use the amp, make antenna higher or farther away from neighbors. Or use the radio late at night or very early in the morning. Just my suggestions. A filter might not do much what I think. I had the same problems, but I use my radio at odd hours now.

for one you are using a export radio and with them comes lots of spurious emission spikes in the signal
then second you are transmitting thru a broadbanded transistor box all those spike just became amplified

might try just a 40 channel radio that hasnt been hacked and key a few times see if it still bleeds
then get rid the pill box on the base

the ground radials might help it some
then might upgrade the coax to something bigger diameter than a pencil

How old is it? Either way, the stuff mentioned above is your problem. In fact, I've NEVER personally seen anyone with close neighbors get away with running a solid state (non tube) amp at home without eating up the neighbors. These days, with computer speakers, surround systems, and all of the new consumer electronic cheapness there are a lot of opportunities to interfere.

I think what you have is probably fine but if it is really old I'd replace it. Again, I think your deal is gonna be what was mentioned.

If you want to disregard all the suggestions that were given above to eliminate the interference problem and think by just changing the coax to RG/8 it will stop it good luck.
I hope it does.

Ditch that amp, and get your antenna as high as you can get it. You will still get out just fine, and probly sound better on the air.

the thing is that i always get deadkeyd on barefoot so i need a amp, and i thought that the normal rg/8 is the small coax i was told i have t6he prety big stuff, i might get some belden 9913 i looked at the stats on that coax it's aupposed to be A1!!

even 213 coax has more sheilding than that rg8
if you could post a pic of the antenna might give some better idea what we working with
coax with cracks or just old coax that was found in the garage back when grandpaw use to talk all over the world with that same coax
sure i would chunk the coax
213 or the 9913 will help

how can you be deadkeyed ?
you got a export driving a Texas star that should sound pretty loud
and the 667

You need the antenna higher, Ground radials on it if you can, And good coax like LMR400 or equivalent if you can swing it! Running a good ground wire to the houses ground may be a good idea as well! All this needs to be driven with a stock unmodified radio to test for interference problems. At the least the antenna must go higher and try to get your station grounded. You can get more pipe to raise the antenna higher. You may want to put some guy wires on it to if you are in a windy place or if it can fall into the neighbors yards. Do some changes and let us know what results you get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to be quite frank i would get rid of the antenna that dont have the radials
they use to be real good antennas some would get water in them nad rust out and then lose connection and the parties will begin
i wouldlook into a maco v-5/8
get a pushup pole and a roof mount seal the roof mount down to the roof and extend the pushup pole and after you have constructed the 5/8 and tune dthen attach it to the top of pole and rasie it up and tighten your guy wires

still havnet seen a pic of the antenna you talk about
if its the 500 im thinking about it should ahve a wire coming down that should attach to the ground radials that is there for a purpose

as far as the pic of the 500 im assuming it mounted on a T post beside the house and its about 4 foot off the ground
