An old Maco. I plan to keep it in the air but wanting another to place in a different spot on the mountain behind my house.

How much coax do you need to run to get to the antenna on the mountain? Heck, you might want to consider using the one you have and invest in some good quality low loss coax if it's a long distance. A guy I know had about 400' of coax to get on the top of a little hill behind him (the hill is about 300'). He threw up an Imax2000 on a 20' mast and as far as I know it's now the only antenna he uses. But the coax cost him quite a bit...but was worth it for him.

Just a thought.

The Maco is only about 50 feet behind the house. It works really well but I want to get a little more altitude to get out a little better.

Can you make a guess as to how far this new antenna would be from your house? The reason I ask is that if the distance is very much, there are alternatives to using coax as the feed line. Two of the reasons for doing so is quite a bit less loss, and quite a bit less cost. It's not all that simple though, and if the run isn't a very long one, probably isn't a solution for everyone.

Probably no more than 250-300 feet.
