Does anyone know anything about the Maxrad base load antennas? From what I've read they are the preferred CB antenna for a lot of gov't agencies. I'd have to get into the NMO mount deal though.

Yes, You will change over the the NMO mounts "mostly". I used Maxrad many many years ago on my pickup for Ham. At a Ham convention a guy gave me one of his to try and let me have it for the weekend. It was an Antenex. I went back to the guy and let him know it was much better than the Maxrad's I was using and he gave me coupons for a free antenna if I brought the old one to trade. (I traded 5 antennas, 3 Maxrad's and 2 Larson's)

I told you that story to let you know that all Gov agencies changed over to Antenex in the late 80's. Maxrad and Antenex look almost identical. A few years ago Laird Technologies bought out Antenex. I can tell you that Laird has not changed the design of the Antenex line.

Most of the antennas used on Military Aircraft & vechiles are using Laird-Antenex line. Even on our scout, spec ops & water vechiles are using them. The quality of the Maxrads diminished long ago and now owned by PCTEL Antenna Products. PCTEL is trying to bring them back but it's to late. Laird has the market wrapped up.

Laird's C27 Mobile for Frequency Range of 26.75-31 MHz, the CW27 Frequency Range of 26.8 - 29.7 MHz & the Q27S Frequency 27 - 54 MHz 102" whip will work for CB.

Lairds website is nice looking but not user friendly to navigate [Please login or register to view this link]

I hope that helps.
