Pete 387 antenna help
Just transfered into a 387 and need some advice on mounting antennas. There are two mounted from the factory, one on each side. Today when I checked swr I got 3.5. Not good. I won't risk my swp gl on that high of a reading. The antennas are old and beat up so a change is needed. Anybody out there run this truck? I know nothing about it. Are they "no ground plane antennas"? The damn cab is so high I don't think I can mount my 10k on the headache rack. It'll be totally blocked. I was thinking of going with 3' fire stiks but thought I would get some suggestions here before I spent and money. Will they work or do I need to get a pair designed for no ground plane? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I know a guy that runs around here in a 387, I noticed one day as I passed him that he had Wilson Silverloads on his. I have heard him around for a while, he seems to get out ok. I will try and look for him this week and see what his swr's are and get back with you.

I run a 2007 387 and don't use the coax that is supplied in the truck if you pull it down far enough you will see it is spliced with a connector about a foot or two up from the connector on the back of the radio run your own coax and get a new mount and antenna

Thanks slingshot I could use some suggestions.
Grump, I don't own the truck so I can't get too radical in making modifications. What kind of mount did you use? Where did you mount it? Running new coax isn't a problem was thinking of doing that anyway.

Well sorry I made a mistake mine truck is the 389 I take it you have the new mirrors with the only bar across the bottom. If that is the case then use the original mount with a wilson 2000 and put new coax will make a world of difference
