redoing this m-104 for a freind of mine going to flatside
should the measurements for the element spacing start from the rear or back of beam
and does anyone have any specs on this antenna
and how its put together

Actually, it shouldn't matter where you start, front or back, but I have a better suggestion.
The boom should be approximately 17 ft long on the 104. If you mount the mast plate, and mast half way, that should be around 8.5 ft.
After you get the mast plate and mast in place, why not start from the center? The driven element and the first director MUST be 45 inches apart. So if you start at the center of the boom or boom plate, you could measure out 22.5" and install the driven element and then measure out 22.5 inches the other direction and install the director.
This is how I assemble ALL my beams. The only beam I have ever had that told me how much left over there should be at the end of the boom is a CushCraft A4. Most beams do not tell you that. I've assembled a lot of Maco's and Avanti's and none of them where that specific. The boom length, or the amount of excess boom really doesn't matter in comparison to the element spacing.

thanks a bunch thats what i was looking for
but couldnt find any specs on if i needed the start from rear either at the black cap or at the end of the boom then measure
