magnetic mount

I have a Wilson 2000 trucker screwed into a 5" mag mount. I have this on the roof of my Explorer. I would like to getr better RX but thats the only place to mount short of drilling a hole. My explorer is a 2009 so I really don't want to go that route. What can I do? Thanks

You have several choices. All of them are expensive.
One is to try out every antenna you can get your hands on till you find the one you 'like' best. Another is to take someone else's advice who'z already done that under the exact same circumstances as yours. Another is to get the longest antenna you can find and learn to live with the consequences. Another is to always listen in the highest spot within 100 miles of you which is clear of obstructions in all directions. And the least palatable, have realistic expectations and live with them.
Oh wow! Great choices, huh?
It's really not that bad, but it'll sure seem like it. Wish I could answer your question exactly.
Good luck.

Hi,

The problem with vehicles built today is no good ground plane. The bumpers are plastic and the top loaded Francis 8 footer is no longer made. The roof is the best place to put the antenna. I would stick with the Wilson Magnet mount on the roof. Unfortunately; you are limited to what you can use. The set-up you have is the best option; short of drilling a hole in the roof.
Respectfully as always,

Rick
