With my Uniden 78ltw and a 800 watt amp on a 108'' whip (MFJ-1966) with Belden 9913 solid core coax. I have great reception and trammit with a SWR at 1.0. Needle barely moves on the Rat shack meter and the PDC 600's
All installed in a Chevy Silverado 2500.

Either the 102/108" whip, or a Predator 10k! Best values for the money.

Hey thanks again linx. Quick question thought what is the difference in single and double coil? And do you run one of these? Just need a little more feedback. I like the more - less limb slapping this would be doing.

The single coil is taller than the double coil. The double coil is added to make the overall height of the antenna lower. I don't run one right now, but I ran a 27" single coil for a year. I hit all kinds of trees and never damaged the antenna. They are very durable, and super light. They are the lightest "competition style" antenna I've ever felt. When you hold that monster and feel it weighs just ounces you'll know what I'm talking about. The other advantage to the Predator that no other open air coil type has, is that it has replacable parts. If anything gets damaged, you can replace just 1 part instead of replacing the entire antenna. I had mine on a Tri-Mag on top of my 4x4 truck so not only was it high up there, but it would also hold at highway speeds. It was the best mobile antenna I've ever owned. I am in a new truck however that doesn't allow antennas on it, so I'm just stuck in a rut now. The longer the antenna, the easier it's going to be to get the SWR's down low. If you get like a 9" shaft double coil, it's going to be harder to tune. Not impossible...just harder.

Do a search up top in the search box for Predator 10k and you'll see they are probably the most popular antenna on here, as well in the CB scene.

108" is a 1/4 wave, so a 102" whip with a 6" spring will make it 108"

I understand that I was just confused where white lightning came from with that.
Its really supposed to be 109 1/4 wave but the stud you screw it too takes care of the extra inch.

Good advice above, but I see the amp is a smaller one. While it takes a lot of power jump (4x usually) to see a big difference, your amplifier is small enough that upgrading to a larger one, something like a 4 pill model or even a 2x4 of the worldwide/fatboy/gator/dm variety would give you more umph too. My pic on the antenna would be a big whip but the ones mentioned would all be very close. You also mentioned money is no object. If that's the case, do the antenna upgrade and use your current amp to drive a big 8 pill amp, and add a battery or 2 and upgrade the alternator.

Your current setup is decently equipped and I'm sure has a great signal. Because you're already where you are performance wise, to make a big leap will take big changes and even then location is a lot of what will determine it all.

How big is the power wire to your current amp? If it is #10 or smaller upgrade it.

I finally got my new antenna installed. 102" whip with 6 inch spring, Swr are at 1:1 or better until I move the truck or the antenna sways, I have the ball mount on the toolbox and have double checked all the connections and replaced the coax. There isnt much to go bad on the mount but I guess its possible, what do ya'll think? Love the way it looks though

Check to make sure your ground is to the frame for the ball mount base. Your swr's will move when going down the road. I think mine only go about .2 . Setting still there at 1.0. Mobil they are 1.2 at 70 mph.

I figured out the stud was touching a burr from the hole I drilled and was grounding it out. I got it all going now and dang what ears I have now.

so is that 102" smoking your 5000? what kind of differences are you seeing? i've got a 1000, but i'm thinking of getting a 102" as a "mobile base".... meaning i'm hanging out with my buds drinking one night and wanna get on the radio (as in i'm not moving.... ) i've got a four door sedan, no way i'm putting a 102" on there permanantly. i'm scraping my 1000 enough! now if i had a nice dodge quad cab, i don't care i'd have a 102"! but i've yet to hit the lottery...lol
Dammit Wrongway! I drilled the freaking hole!
