High SWR
Hello I am re-entering the hobby after approximately tewnty-five years and there have been a lot of changes since. Last night I got my new radio a Galaxy DX 959 "Tuned" my truck is in the shop so (not being able to wait) I attached the radio to a pymaird 25 amp regulator (converter) and I pluged in my Wilson 1000 magnetic antenna. Just to see what I could hear, nothing my radio's SWR meter was actually pegged over 4. I hoping since the antenna was not grounded that was the cause of the problem I was in my bed room at the time. Everything else was properly installed. I do not want to install the radio in my loanner vehicle and I am not sure if I should try it out in my wife's vewhicle with such a high SWR reading. Do you think it was the lack of ground that resulted in such a high SWR reading?

Well, you have no good ground plane, so the swrs are going to be like that until it gets stuck on even something like a big pizza pan.
