well if you can find a 10k, a 10k with a 27inch shaft. but hey my vote goes to a 102 inch whip mouted on a riser about level with your cab :icon_e_wink:

naw the 5000 can just handle more watts. but if your worried about how many watts it can handle you should be out of mag mount territory already. :icon_e_wink: me and this tobacco field truck is gettin up. ill cya

I have a F-250 and found that using a coil and whip antenna is more money and work. Plus you need a long shaft to get the coil over the cab, unless you put it in the center of the cab roof. Also here thieves love to steal expensive coil and whips. But for around thirty bucks you can get a top loaded Skip Shooter and install it out of the passenger side stake bed hole. The reason I say passenger side is because of the bank drive thrus and similar. Most of the time the drive thru only covers the drivers side and the passanger side is uncovered for antenna clearance. Also they are three to seven feet to fit any vehicle. They hold up to 7500 watts and tunable. In my job I have to test every new antenna that comes along and for years I have always come back to the top loaded fiberglass style for everyday use.

Now I just recently purchased Skip Shooter Antenna Company becuase of my experience with all the other styles of antennas and found thier design the best quality. With that said you might think I'm trying to make a sale but I'm just tying to help you talk the best with little money for everyday talking. Skip Shooter has had the same distributors and dealers for over forty years now so you not buying one isn't going to bankrupt us. Similar products would be the Wilson Silver Load and Firestix II. When our patnent was up 1995 they jumped on the band wagon too.

But experience is your best teacher and I wanted to let you know that these antennas will out perform a coil and whip on a pick up. The only way to get the same results with a coil and whip would be to drill a hole in the middle of the cab with a very short or no shaft.

Is your 55 coming out of the center of your cab roof? And are you talking big truck or pick up? If you are talking about a pickup, as long as the coil is above the cab and does best coming out of the center. A coil and whip works best with a metal ground plane so that's why I say the center for a flat metal surface. Most big trucks have a all fiberglass body so the best bang for the buck is going top loaded. Last November at our shoot out here my Skip Shooter would stomp all the ducks showing up to the staging area with thier coil and whips mounted behind the cab. Now I did take off my everyday driver five foot and used a seven footer to make sure my coil was a lot higher than normal. On my F-250 seven footers are too tall for some of the places I go in downtown Memphis. 8)

IMO...Get a 27" shaft, Single Coil Predator 10K...BUT! I highly doubt your going to be able to find one, since they have not been any made since back before Christmas, and looks like there will not be anymore made period. Cowtown Antenna's (Predator 10K Company) is shut-down, closed, and no more are in the works... :pale:

You may want to also check out "Fatboy Antenna's"...Give them a "Google"
