stealth antenna?
my buddy can't post right now for some reason so i'm relaying this....
he lives in an apartment and they don't allow antennas. he found this on ebay and wants to know if it's worth the money, or if there is a better way. he's running an mf240.

For $40.00 it will work you can make one for $10.00 or less. To talk locally try to get it up Vertically, in an Inverted L or V in that order. Says it comes pretuned for channel 20 if you use it indoors you will find that not to be the case due to surrounding objects. But you might get lucky. So some tuning on the antenna might be needed to get a good swr.Hot Hands wrote:

It will work...but it's performance is going to be hindered by several things. First, if he mounts it horizontally, his signal will only be going two directions along the broad side of the antenna (i.e. if he sets it up pointing north/south then his signal will go east/west). Also, his there will be a 20dB attenuation from cross polarization...most CBers use vertically polarized antennas. And last, with the antenna being inside, there will be attenuation from surrounding objects and the roof itself.

They work pretty will from what i know. Tuning is pretty easy as well.
Sence your partner is in a complex. Getting them vertical or in a inverted v wont be to stealthy.

"Choirboy" had decent luck putting an antenna in an apartment attic. Does your friend have access to his attic?
He'll have to be careful to not **Censored** off the neighbors with interferance, and he will have some trouble getting his SWR's right.
He might have decent luck with a NGP (no ground plane) antenna sticking out the window on a stick or something, until he gets turned in to appt mgmt.

I didn't have much luck with a dipole in the attic in my old apartment complex either. I did use an NGP one for awhile out the window, utilizing a mount I made to clamp on the window frame and hold the antenna about 18" off the side of the building. It worked, but it sure sucked for talking...
