I got a solarcon A-99. But it time to upgrade to 5/8 wave. I talk to a guy 24 mile that has a Maco v58 antenna and it sound so good and can hear skip rolling in before me.

Of the two antennae you mention, the 827 is by far the better choice.

The Vector 4000 is a very effective antenna, but is of poor quality construction, and they have a tendancy to snap!

The 827 is of better quality, and will out perform the Antron as well.........I've tried all of these, and the 827 is the only one I would recommend.

If you do get the 827, it is worthwhile getting the anti vibration ring to fit on the groundplanes.....It does make a difference!

I agree. Although I've never personally used either, I have seen them up close and can confirm this. The quality of the Vector 4000 is very "thin" at best compared to the 827.

A good point made by Silverstreak!.....The Sirio 2016 is very good antenna, and is another very popular choice, along with the 827 amongst the serious D.X. chasers over here in Britland!

i have an imax which performs wonderful had a antron that was crap, runnin a maco 5/8 now this one is built very poorly and does not cover much of the band <<<<more crap.the vector has great reviews and would most likely out perform all the rest but would need some reenforcing maybe liquid foam or bamboo in the center or being tied off with heavy fishing line.there is a new sirio a vector 4000 upgade called the lw-150 this looks nice but is 31.2 feet tall wow!now thats a lot of antenna.the sweet spot is supposed to be 27 feet garys jpole claims 9db gain and is also around 27 feet.good luck to you!

I have the original Vector 4000 which is the only base antenna I have owned, so I don't have much to compare it to, but it performs extremely well. I am in a very low level area, and the base of the Vector is only about 27 feet above the ground, but it gets out very well and has great ears. I did have some trouble at first due to the screws that lock each section together rusted off and one section actually slid down into the other section, making the antenna about THREE FEET too short. Took me a while to figure out why my match was so far off all of a suddent. However, I rebuilt the entire antenna replacing every screw with slightly larger diameter, stainless steel screws, and loctited each one in place. I haven't had a problem since. My match is 1.0 on ch 40 and 1.1 on ch 1. It is a LOOONG antenna (31 + feet tall) and sways in high wind for sure, but since the rebuild it's held up to well over 50mph winds, freezing rain, snow, etc.. I think for the money (I paid about $130 as I recall) it's a great antenna.

Check back through my posts. I have a whole post on the Vector installation etc...

Good luck!

Thanks Guys on the info. Like I was thinking, the sirio 827 looks like the way to go. but is the new Lw-150 upgrade better on construction? And is the vector 4000 have better gain over the 827 in the field or just the paper?

the 4000 has more gain than the 827 and the lw-150 may have a litle more than the 4000 cb tricks has the sirio catalog with the db ratings except for the lw-150 that one you can check on h an y.

well looks like the lw-150 is a v4000 clone not sure but the dbi for the 827 is 3.65 and the dbi for v4000 is 4.15 good luck.

I seen on a another forum that the sirio 827 is close to the I-10k antenna in performance. A guy from the U.K. bought the I-10k and replace the sirio 827 antenna and said that he had a 1/2 -1 pound more rx and tx over the sirio 827 antenna. So for me that close enough.
