2 pounds of noise all the time have to turn clarifier on am

My radio is a uniden washington base, I have so much noise all the time even when some is talking I always have to turn the clarifier to like 1oclock to recieve on am any ideas on this?

As for the noise on the base, I know nothing about base setups...

And to answer your clarifier question, it sounds like either the radio needs aligned or the frequency that the people your listening to just happen to be on that freq.

Using the clar. knob is just a part of using SSB. it is necessary to tune in the signal your trying to hear.

Maybe someone on here can tell you what the frequency should be dead center on the clarifier for USB and LSB.
I was told 27.1825 on LSB and 27.1875 for USB, but I do not know if thats right.

Is the noise a recent thing or has it always been there?

Turning the clarifier should make no difference in the amount of noise and your ability to receive. The only thing the clarifier will do is change your receive frequency, but only a small amount. The only thing that should really make any impact on the noise level would be the RF gain and noise blanker circuit.
