Help with Vanco SWR-1 use

First, I'm both a newbie to the CB world as well as CBRT. I've already found a good deal of valuable info here and I plan to stay around and learn more, but I've been unable to find an answer to my specific question.

I've just installed what will most likely be a temporary CB and a Wilson 5000 mag mount. The real question is on the use of the Vanco SWR-1. I borrowed it and there were no instructions, but found them on line. The problem is, the instructions are vague concerning the "calibrate" step. In understand the basic process, but with this SWR and it's instructions I'm confused.

This is what it says...

• Set the center switch to "FWD" and rotate the adjusting knob to near minimum position (counter-clockwise)

Turn the transmitter on, rotate the adjusting knob for full meter swing.

OK, I'm lost. what is "near minimum position? what is "full meter swing"?

I'd post a pic of the meter, but forum rules and my newbie status does not allow me.

Set the switch to FWD and key the mic. Turn the knob until the needle is on SET. With the mic still keyed move the switch to FWD. That will be your SWR.

Got it, thanks. That's what I thought "set", but thank you for confirming. I'll give it a try.

Those Vanco meters work really well I checked mine with a buddys MFJ analyzer it read the same in every situation.

The swr-1 also has a frequency range from 3.5-150mhz a good deal for the price.

Thanks for the feedback on the SWR-1. It's good to know that the tuning I'm doing is reliable. I wasn't sure of the meter's accuracy or reputation. I just borrowed it from one of the local radio install shops since they didn't have time to do it. Nice guy, allowed me to borrow it for the weekend.

Must hang out with the guy a lot for him to lend his tools to ya. Sometimes that works out best and you don't have to go by all them meters and stuff.
