wilson 5000 vs predator 10k
I came into work a couple days ago and turned on my radio and asked for a radio check.(My amp was not on) a base station replied loud and clear radio check what's your 20? I responded meijer dc on creyts rd and the base station said thats about 8miles out as the bird flies, u must be using 1 of those wilson antennas? I said no I am using a predator 10k. The base came back- predator? Never heard of it, u should go and get 1 of those wilsons and u can get out better! I didn't want to debate so I thanked him and left it at that, but another driver keyed up and asked how does this wilson 5000 sound I'm at the same location as the 1st guy, the base station said the 1st guy came in stronger he was hitting me at a 5 and you were coming in about a 4 what kind of radio are u running? Driver 2 said I have a general lee tuned up to do 60watts. That's the same radio that I run. So 2 drivers at the same location with the same radio but my signal got out stronger! I chalk it up to the 10k. wilson makes good antennas I even own a few but the the 10k is top dawg! Its a 10k world

Hello natureboy,
I'm still in the process of evaluating my P10K. Had a wilson 1000 up and it done a fine job. Got the P10K up and I think it's a tad bit better on the transmit and way better on the recieve. I put 5s on a base station 30 miles from me that's with power. Got my swr's at 1.5 will try to get lower don't know if that will be noticeable. But so for a likey.

. Hey big kahuna you should be able to get that swr lower, I have mine down to 1.0 and the longer u have that 10k the more u will like it, that's the way it was for me when I switched over from my wilsons so good luck buddy- mr 757 waving a hand at ya ill c u ByebyeBig_Kahuna wrote:Hello natureboy,

Hummm.....Think I would send that General Lee off to Sparkys or someone, and have them figure out what's wrong with it then!stony wrote:Well i put a pred. 10 k duel coil on my route truck got the swr down to 1;1 . with a gen. lee.. i had the toyota parked beside with the gallaxy 66 and wilson 5000 mag mount on both on 19 seemed like i could pick up better and more clear with the wilson . just my 2 cents..

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Wilson 5000 is a base loaded antenna which is not as efficient as the antenna you are running.
I have a Wilson 5000 TLM which we put on and take off our car from time to time. Its a nice compromise antenna and is broadbanded.

Its not a real radio unless it has tubes and USB/LSB on the front panel ....

For a test like that to mean anything both vehicles need to be the same, both antennas need to be installed identical, and both need to be sitting on the same spot on the earth. To many variables to make a valid comparison of antenna performance.natureboy757 wrote:I came into work a couple days ago and turned on my radio and asked for a radio check.(My amp was not on) a base station replied loud and clear radio check what's your 20? I will tell you this ... ANY antenna that has a loading coil is a compromise in performance.
Top (or center) loaded antennas will perform better than base loaded antennas.

my 22 inch shaft on my suburban will talk better and hear better than a 102 with adjuster installed
both antennas at 1.0 1.1
if i knew without a doubt the 102 would outperform the 10k then i would be running 102s
instead im running 10ks

I am considering one of the predators to replace a Wilson 2000sw that I have not had a lot of luck tuning to a low SWR.
The mount on my truck is on the toolbox right behind the cab so I use the SW wilson because of the longer shaft. But I see there are three different predators. Which one would be the best for my pickup? I am a little concerned with overall height but mostly SWR tuning and overall transmit and receive performance.
So given a choice I would prefer the dual coil SW, or the regular dual coil or the longer whip single coil? Either one I would use the 22" shaft to get the coil over the cab of my pickup. But again I need to tune it on lower bands and good receive and transmit

Here is the question I posted about the various Predator antennas that I sww on their site

With a good mounting point and grounding, plus adjusting the stinger up or down, and making sure your coil is above the vehicle you should be able to achieve much lower SWR with that antenna.Big_Kahuna wrote:Hello natureboy,
